The Proud of the County India Gate at New Delhi
India Gate is one of the national monuments of India. It is situated in the centre of the capital New Delhi. It is made up of red sand stone and granite. It is 42 meter tall gate and a prominent landmark in Delhi. India Gate has become the site of the Indian Army and also known as Amar Jawan Jyoti or Immortal Soldier.
The flame of immortal soldiers or Amar Jawan Jyoti is always burning in a shrine under the arch of India Gate since 1971. This Jyoti is the mark of the “Tomb of the Unknown soldier” those sacrificed there lives while fighting for the country on border. This shrine is a black marble cenotaph placing rifle on its barrel crested by a soldier’s helmet. This cenotaph is placed on an edifice which has on its four corners four torches that are perpetually kept alive.
At present India gate has become one of the picnic spot and a place of entertainment. In the evening many families with there children can be seen here. It is the place which is open in every season.
