Who Are The Actors On SpongeBob SquarePants?
SpongeBob SquarePants, the animated series, is a favorite of children and adults alike. The main character, a yellow sea sponge (who really looks more like a square kitchen sponge) named SpongeBob, lives under the ocean in Bikini Bottom with his neighbors Squidward, the squid and his best friend Patrick, the starfish. SpongeBob is a perpetually happy sponge who loves everyone. SpongeBob lives in a pineapple-shaped house with his pet snail Gary and works for Mr. Krabbs, a materialistic selfish red crab that owns the Krusty Krab. SpongeBob and his friends and cohorts get into hilarious scrapes and jams all the while learning valuable life lessons.
SpongeBob first aired on Nickelodeon in 1999 and has just finished its 10th season. Guest star voice overs have included the likes of Johnny Depp, Sir-Mix-A-Lot, David Bowie, Ernest Borgnine, David Hasselhoff, John O’Hurley, Amy Poehler, Max Schreck, and Christopher Guest. SpongeBob has been seen on the big screen in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and been featured in a documentary Square Roots: The Story of SpongeBob SquarePants. The voices and characters of SpongeBob and his gang have given joy to countless fans for a decade, with lots more fun on the way.
Tom Kenny, an American voice actor and comedian, is the voice of SpongeBob and his best friend Gary. He said he voices “a lot of dumb yellow characters for some reason.” Besides bringing SpongeBob to life, Kenny has had his voice heard in animated shows including Rocko’s Modern Life, Camp Lazlo, The Powerpuff Girls, Transformers Animated, the Batman, and Dilbert. He also voiced the characters of Skids and Wheelie on the live-action movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Bill Fagerbakke, actor and voice actor, brings SpongeBob’s best friend, Patrick Star to life. Patrick acts stupid and idiotic on most occasions, but SpongeBob believes Patrick is a complete genius and almost always knows best. In addition to playing Patrick, Fagerbakke’s voice talents have been heard in works such as, Transformers Animated, The Legend of Frosty the Snowman, Balto III: Wings of Change, Final Fantasy Unlimited and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Rodger Bumpass, an American character actor and voice actor, gives voice to Squidward J. Q. Tentacles, Squidward for short. His species is a mix between an octopus and a squid and he is SpongeBob’s arrogant and grouchy next door neighbor, who lives in an Easter Island Moai statue. Bumpass’ career as a voice actor goes all the way back to a 1962 episode of The Jetsons. His voice acting has been heard in many animated films, animated television series and video games including Monsters, Inc., Osmosis Jones, Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet and Alvin and the Chipmunks series.
Clancy Brown, an American actor and voice actor, channels Mr. Krabs voice. Mr. Krabs, the greedy owner of the restaurant where SpongeBob works, is always coming up with money-making schemes. SpongeBob unwittingly respects Mr. Krabs, who thinks SpongBob is an idiot. Brown has worked extensively as a voice actor as Lex Luthor in the animated TV series Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League/Justice League Unlimited.
